Thank you Karen Duke from Canada

I was looking back in my 2010 convention swaps and found one given to me from Karen Duke (CANADA).  Most everyone is familiar with Karen.  She was selected to be a part of the 2010-2011 Stampin' Up! Advisory Board. And, she is one of Canada's top demonstrators.  I was so privileged to have received her card.  Anyway, I took her idea and did a little tweaking (that's what we do) and bam! I came up with my take on it.  I will post it on Stampin' Connection in a day or two.  I hand drew the little strings.

Rats! the light is wrong on it.  It's still cute.
Stamp Sets: Blowing Kisses and All in the Family
Inks: Stazon Black and Real Red Stamprin' Write Marker
Cardstock: Basic Black, Whisper White, and Red Glimmer Paper
Three heart punch, small heart single punch, Big Shot, and Tulip Frame embossing folder.
I liked the way it turned out.

These next two pigtures are what was created for my daughter, Tracie, for her fellow classmates (ASU internship for teaching) and for the 6th grade students she is co-teaching.
Neat.  I started making a valentine project for her; however, somehow it turned into an ASU thing and no valentine at all.  Now, how did this happen.  My Piglet#1 helped and we kicked out 120 of these in no time at all.......  you can hardly see the little "Sparky" in the center and the tiny Rough Letters (retired. I know. Blahhhh).  Two little midget tootsie rolls just snuggle right inside.  I put my blog and email info on a label on the bottom of each one.

So, this is it for today.  Not sure if I will post tomorrow.  Day of rest.  Monday for sure.  Let me think what I can do.

Birthday invitation and favor purse

Looky here and see what I just did for one of my club members.  Her 6 year old daughter is having a 'tea party' birthday.  She asked me to make the invitations and a party favor purse to hold little "girlie" things in.
The invitation die is not Stampin' Up! (it is a Sizzix) but I had to do something.  The party favor purse is a pattern template off the Stampin' Up! website.  I did the inside information on the computer.
Pretty cool, huh?  The DSP paper is not Stampin' Up! but that's the color choice of the customer and she will cut letters for their names to go in the circle on the favor purse.  I used the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder and the big shot to create the embossed look.

Pretty good, if I say so myself. That little teacup is so stinkin' cute. I will have to do something with that stamp.  Little notecards would be a good idea.
I guess I will close for now and get this posted.  Thanks for stopping by and happy pigtrails to you, pinkpigy@aol.com

Measure twice and cut once

I almost forgot about following up on the two very important tools to have in our business.  The grid paper are totally cool.  I use alot of these.  I tried once to do a family get together and use them as place mats, but, that didn't work so well. (I believe one comments was something like "aw come on! Another Stampin' Up! thing! Can't we just have one thing without Stampin' Up!?"  Duhhhhhh..... no!  Because, this is what I am about.

Let's get started.  If you happen to have a Stampin' Up! grid sheet close at hand, this would be a good time to place it in front of you and look at it close up.  We are going to be speaking in terms of inches.
It's pretty much like a ruler.  In the lower left
hand corner are little lines (aka marks).  You
will notice that there are numbers along the
side and across the bottom.  These numbers
are referred to as whole numbers.
If you  will  take a  piece of cardstock
        (5- 1/2"  x 4-1/4" - which
is a regular sized greeting card), and place it in
the lower left hand corner of the grid sheet.
See how it lines up on the side and across the
bottom?  That is good.  You will look at the
numbers on the ruler and see that it matches
the size of the regular greeting card.   Very
good.  We are still moving forward.
In between the whole numbers, there are marks. Some rulers can have as many as 64 marks and others have 32, 24, 16, 8, 4, 2.  We will use the 16, 8, 4, and 2 marks.  Once again, in the lower left hand corner of the sheet, across the bottom looking toward the right (to the number 1) - see the little marks - some are shorter than others. Well, there is a reason for this.  The longest mark tells us that it is the halfway point between 0 and the number 1 - so, there are two halves which would be 1/2". I know you are getting to be impressed about now.

Next, divide the point between 0" to 1" into fourths and if you will count from the first mark (which is 0") 4 marks over, you will get 2/4" and it converts to 1/4". See how easy it is.  Count 4 more marks over and you will get 4/8" and what is amazing about this - it converts to 1/2" (which is the halfway mark between 0" and 1" ). Tada!  Count 4 more marks and you will 6/8" and it converts to 3/4".  Because 4/4" = 1".
Yep! We are almost done with measuring. Cutting is on your own once we look at the paper cutter.

This harder to see; however, look at both pictures and you will get the idea.  We are now going to split the marks into eighths. There are 8 marks between 0" and 1".  Count from 0" - 2 marks over and you will get 1/8" . Count two more marks which is 1/4"; count 2 more marks and you will 3/8"; count two more marks and you will get 4/8" which converts to 1/2". Amazing, isn't it. Because we are counting by 8s, half of 8 is 4 and that equals 4/8" reduced to 1/2" (halfway mark between 0" and 1".  On the other side of the 1/2" is two more marks over and that is 5/8". Count two more marks over and you will get 6/8" which converts to 3/4" and then two marks over is 7/8".  See?

I have circled all of the marks because these represent the sixteenths of an inch.  Each one is 1/16" and when you go in succession as in the following:   1/16", 2/16" (or 1/8"); 3/16"; 4/16" (or 1/4"); 5/16"; 6/16"; 7/16"; 8/16" (or 1/2"); 9/16"; 10/16" (or 5/8"); 11/16"; 12/16" (or 3/4"); 13/16"; 14/16" (or 7/8"); and 15/16".
 Then, you have 16/16" = 1"

You have completed the grid sheet measuring tutorial.  It gets easier. Don't be afraid of measuring and using the grid sheet.  If you need help, just let me know.  Was this too confusing?  There is just alot of explaining to do.  These measurements coincide with the baking measurements only in a different form.   If you leave a comment letting me know you got it all.  You get 5 oinks (the highest oinks possible).  Because there are 5 little piggies (one went to market; one piggie stayed home; one little piggie had roast beef; one little piggie had none; and one little piggie went wee, wee, wee all the way home).

Watch for the next tutorial on our paper cutter.  Thanks for stopping by and happy pigtrails to you, pinkpigy@aol.com

Our wonderful paper cutter

What an amazing tool to have.  Think what we did before this cutter?  Scissors and some of you remember the old, old, paper cutters that could cut anything and would even slice a finger off. Yeh! that's how sharp they were. Dangerous, very dangerous.  I think my sister Peggy might have tried to cut my hair using one. hmmmm.!
Let's get started.  If you have a paper cutter, place in front of you and follow along. Get a piece of scrap paper to practice with.

First, let me point out that there is a pull out "arm" that lets you continue on past the 5" mark of the cutter. The marks are the same as the grid sheet with the exception of the area to the left of the cutting blade bay. This is so you can also measure to the left (I use this when I have little pieces to cut and they shift.  I also have marked certain measurements that I use frequently (such as 5- 1/2", 5- 1/4", 6", 8-1/2", 11", 12"). You get the idea.  Also, you can see the solid lines that go from side to the other. That is really neat to have so you get straight lines.  If you will look at the blue area (that I call the cutting blade bay) and just to the left on the silver plate but not the first mark - this is small enough to measure 1/8". Just the right size for really itty bitty strips of whatever you use.   You can also use your scoring blade with this.
That's pretty much how you use the paper cutter.  It works the same as the grid sheet and we have covered the marks and inches already.  All you really need to do is just practice and it will eventually be easier to manage.  If it is still too hard to accomplish, just use the grid sheet and make your own marks on your projects and then cut.  Thanks for stopping by and happy pigtrails to you, pinkpigy@aol.com
http://www.janerappleyea.stampinup.net/
PS: you can get 2 oinks for mastering the use of the paper cutter. Let me know.

It is Sale-A-Bration time!

I have been waiting so long for this time to come around.  Wahoo!  You will be too.  Now, here is the way SAB (Sale-A-Bration) works:   All you have to do is look in the SAB brochure and you will notice there are no prices listed on any of the items.  That's because you can't buy them; you can only earn them.  This is how you earn them:  Order in increments of $50.00 and get any one item FREE!  Yep. FREE! How cool is that?!
If you order $100.00 - you get any two items FREE!  And, it just keeps going, going, going, and going.
*If you order 75.00 - you will only get one FREE item, not two*
Look and see our current catalogs ahd Go 'Hog Wild'.
Just go onto my stampinup website (http://www.janerappleyea.stampinup.net/)

Inserts for the 2011 calendar frame

So, you already have seen on a previous post,  the frame for this project up close.  Now, here are the inserts that go in them.  Pam H. from Dazzlin' Diamonds did the original one and I just used some of her pages plus did a few of my own. It is done with Designer Series Paper, cardstock, stamping, bling, rhinestones, novelty brads punches, etc.  You can purchase just the inserts and use them as a calendar or not put the calendar part on and use it as a really super-deluxe album (just add your pictures).  $35.00 (includes shipping and there is no tax).  Contact me today at  pinkpigy@aol.com        Each month is theme based and believe me! there are plenty of embellishments on each monthly page.

September is using the French Foliage stamp set.  So, pretty. Several people thought it was a Designer Series Paper.  Nope, it is stamped in several stages using the stamps in the set.

Thanks so much for stopping by and happy pigtrails to you.  pinkpigy@aol.com

Dazzlin' Divas downline meeting swaps

Are  these the products of creative, talented demonstrators?  Yep! They are.

This is from Grace. She said it's a combination of Valentine and Christmas occasions.  You go girl!

These are from Vicki, Anita, and Barbara. Take out container with handmade fortune cookies inside "shut up and kiss me". The bucket is from Tar-jay and the little note card also came inside (what a fantastic idea with that little tea towel tucked inside and don't forget the York patty...yum)

Cards, cards, more cards!  Upper left is our Make and Take thanks to the very creative Vicki. Next to it is Diane's beautiful gatefold card - love it, love it! Then, another view of Anita's candy box made with the top note die. And, then, there is the lovely card made by Linda (Concord Crush and the Eastern Blooms little girl from the OMC with dazzlin' diamonds covering her and the ribbon is bunched together over a strip of sticky strip).  And, the little note card that came in our gift from Barbara.  And, last but not ever least, this cute little card/box combo came from Pam. She got this idea from a magazine while standing in the grocery line.  She created from what she could remember.  See, how creative every one is.  Below is a close up of Anita candy box and look what's inside. Yummy.Oh, I forgot mine.  It's after this one pigture. Keep scrolling down please.

I felt so chincy (spelling???) just giving one little thing even though it was cute, so I made a second one. I felt a little better but mine is so inferior to to the others.  Great group of demos.  Way to go and I am so glad to be a part of this downline.

See? It holds a little piece of candy in the heart pocket (made from the petal card punch on page 202 of the big idea book & catalog). It takes two of them.  If you want to know how I made them, I will do that for you.  The other little treat is a mini mailbox (thanks Maggie for this gift a couple weeks ago, but I tweaked it to match using Stampin' Up! Stuff). I used the 'Lots of Love'  Letterpress plate with the Craft Real Red Stampin' Spot and ran it through the Big Shot. Woooooooiiiieeee! It opens up and three little Hershey miniatures fit inside. Other candy fits in it, too.  I used the large oval punch to make the doors. The little flag-dealie is a piece of 1/8" real red ribbon on a strip of Whisper White with hearts punched and mini-glue dotted on. Cute, cute, cute.
Make them with me sometime.
Okay I have finished for the day.  Thanks for enduring such a long post.  There is just so much to share. Tomorrow I will continue with my family (Peggy is next up).  Happy pigtrails, pinkpigy@aol.com and/or http://www.janerappleyea.stampinup.net/

More of my family

Now look at this pigture.  Aren't these little ones so cute? Don't you just love those encyclopedias as a background?  Yep! those were ours.  Real ones. Ha.ha. Dark brown with gold prints on the front and spines. Now, let me introduce these adorable children (starting right to left, because you save the best for last?).
Doug, Peggy, Vicki, Brett, and Jane (what a diva!)
One of my grandmothers used to call me 'Queenie'.  Imagine that.    I have to laugh because I am looking at some pigtures on my wall next to this computer and start laughing because if I dare to post the most current one, you would laugh, too.  I'll think about it.  It was taken back in 2006 and it serves them right for not getting together more often.  I will start with us kids. Our oldest sister, Vicki, passed away in February of 1987 due to complications from gall bladder surgery.  She was so kind and thoughtful.....always looking out for us and especially me.  My Mom never let me forget how many nights that Vicki would hold me and rock me because I had colic for about 6 months.  I prefer to think it was because I was 'Queenie'. She was a teacher at Agua Fria HS in Avondale.  She was taken away (out of our lives) so young (41) but she was the smart one and the first to graduate from college.  It made our parents so proud because she was getting her degree in teaching and our dad got his degree in Socialology.  They both graduated the same night and got to sit next to each other.  Cool.  I miss her still.  The night she passed away - I was in another hospital recovering from a hysterectomy problems and didn't get released until late.  I was sore and tired but headed over to the hospital where Vicki was.  I was the last one she had to see.  She held out just for me. She looked at me and smiled and tried to speak, but I couldn't understand what she was saying. My other sister, Peggy, had been translating because she could understand more or less of what she was trying to say.  The end was near.  I told her we would come back the next day and visit and get things right.  We got home and I had just made to bed, totally exhausted.  Lee answered the phone..........I know in my heart, that her last words to me were 'Queenie'.  Happy pigtrails to you, pinkpigy@aol.com  and/or http://www.janerappleyea.stampinup.net/

Cutting and measuring

Hello all of you wonderful Piglets,
Sometimes we just get into stamping by having someone show us what to do.  After being in the Stampin' Up! business, I have had to go back to some of the basics (that I never knew existed).  A few of my customers ask  "how do you do that" or "I didn't know how to use it because I was never shown".  Well, the first is not hard for us experienced stampers; but, the "I was never shown" is a scarey thing.  With so many new projects and cards out there all the time, it is really hard to step backwards and visit some of the basic things in stamping.   Here are a couple pigtures of two very important tools of our trade.

Don't hurt the photographer (look in the Big Idea & Book on page 198, item@102787, $9.95/100 sheets). I use these all the time. Trust me..... order these and love them, too.  On the right side is  a handy guide for card measurements and a list area.
I use the little cells and lines and ruler everytime I work on cards or projects.  Go online and note that I am your demonstrator so I get the credit.  Thank you.

This one shows the paper cutter (shown on page 199 of the Idea Book & Catalog). Cost is $24.95 and you get the cutter, cutting blade, and scoring blade).  This is a really cool tool to have with you all the time.  Trust me (again).  This cutter is something alot of crafters tend not to know how to put to use with all it has to offer
See how it compares with the grid sheet.  I mark my cutter with the Signo White Gel Pen for measurements I use alot. You can't see it.  Ha! The whiteor silver line in the blue track is accumulated pieces of paper and I now I will leave and go clean it out.  Makes the cutter work better.  LOL

I am going to attempt to do a tutorial, so hang in there with me for awhile.  I am closing this blog down for today.
Thanks for stopping by and happy pigtrails to you,

Are you asking about my pigs?

Okay, here we go -  my sister,Vicki, was a teacher at Agua Fria HS, Avondale. Their mascot is an owl so she had started her collection of owls.  I had to start some type of collection of my own so I started with unicorns. My niece (Kristi) started bragging about her collection of horses and unicorns and how they were so much better than mine (yes, that irked me a little bit). So, I wanted a different collection. At that time, Lee had just joined the Phoenix Police Department. So, one day when Mom and Vicki and I were shopping, they came up to me and handed me this little piggie.  I was going to 'collect' pigs. PIGS (Pride, Integrity, Guts, Service). And, that is how it got started.  It isn't so bad with one pig here or one pig there. However, thousands get to be a bit much.  eBay?  how can I decide which ones to eBay?! NOT.  And, some I got the idea that there are 3 little pigs and a big bad wolf - so collect them in groups of 3 and the wolf has to be a part of them.   And, let me ask you -  how many poopin' pigs do I need?  Alot!  It's the thought and I love them all because they all have a special meaning and come from everyone who has been so thoughtful.  Here are a couple pigtures (the best of my collection - Disney (should I say anything else)

You can see the two Big Bad Wolfs. The original is the wolf hiding in the trees.

And, I will huff and puff and blooooow your house down (and then cough and cough because I can't huff and puff with all this pollution outside). LOL

Welcome to pinkpigycrafts pig pen. Just finished with holiday stuff and need to work on cleaning but who has time when Valentine projects coming up.
My pigworkstation is there in the lower part of the pigture with the ottlite on it. See it?

See all the pigs lining up around the ceiling areas.  I had to pack some to make room for Stampin' Up!
Happy pigtrails to you, pinkpigy@aol.com

Let's start at the very beginning....

it's a very good place to start...... Remember that little tune - do, re, me?  or is it A,B,C?
Anyway, I got so excited about just starting this blog-thing, that I forgot to give you a little bit of my background.  So, it will be brief.
My name is pinkpigy@aol.com (really Jane) and I have been a Stampin' Up! demonstrator for the past 6 1/2 years (May will be make it 7 yrs).  How did I last so long?!  Anyway,
you will get to know my family along the way.  I am married to DH Lee (yes, believe it, there are still some of those around and you can take it as 'darling husband' or 'devil husband').  We have 2 children, Tracie (Craig) who have Emily (12) and Allie (8); Travis (Melissa) who have Colton (12) and Raina (3).
I am retired from the City of Phoenix and now devote most of my waking hours to Stampin' Up! projects.  So, I am busier now than I was when I was working.  The housecleaning gets put aside, but I'm working on it.  I do not have any Stampin' Up! inventory; however, I have my own personal stash that I buy for myself.  That in its ownself is the problem.  What can I say???????  I love it all!
I will also refer to the "olden" days and let me introduce my birth family to you.  Bill and Audrey are (I say are because they are and always be my parents even though they are deceased).  I have 2 sisters (Vicki (deceased) and Peggy); I have 2 brothers (Doug and Brett).  To conclude this little introductory portion, how do the pigs fit in? Well, that will be a post for maybe tomorrow.
Now, I am done with this blog. Pigtures to follow.

Mamas got a brand new bag

Ha! I mean Mama Pig has a brand new bag. Did you see it to the right side. Cute, huh? I got it at a boutique craft sale a couple months ago. Just the right size for me. The straps are a little long, but I can manage. No, it's not a Coach or Dooney Bourke or Brighton. But, it's mine. Yeah, it is made out of denim and it is cute, cute. cute.

What a weekend!

I just cannot believe the past two days.  I think I need to get a job outside the home just to get some rest.  My Stampin' Up! business is moving right along.  I have to tell you that I appreciate every customer who comes to me and each order I get I do not take for granted.  This is my business now.  I once considered myself only a "hobby demonstrator", but I can't have that title anymore.  I do workshops, classes, clubs, lots of stampin' things. Not just for myself anymore.  Anyone who wants to learn more about bringing the creative side out is invited to be part of my Stampin' Up! life.
I love it and right now, this is where I want to be.  And, I am heading a little bit at a time further up the road. So, thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
Anyway, as in a couple of my previous posts - I shared a few pigtures of the 2011 calendar/frame class I had. I have to pat myself on the back for coming through with this project.  I added bling and little detailed items on each monthly page.....and the generous, kinds words just boosted my self-worth and confidence right through the ceiling. Everyone who attended had fun and just loved their calendar.  I do have a few left if you are interested in purchasing one.  $45.00 (includes twelve monthly pages, page protectors, hand constructed frame, rings to hold pages, ribbon for decoration, and emailed tutorial, and shipping charges).
That is one super deal.  Just please email me at pinkpigy@aol.com if you would like to order one.
If you would like to order just the frame, they are $15.00 each (including shipping charges).  I do need the money before I can send them out.  Thanks.
I also had my Stamp Club this weekend (I know, I know....back to back - whew!). I just love my club members.  My piglets are so good. I am so glad they have stayed with me so long.  I believe I take really good care of them and I always let them know how much I appreciate each one of them.  This is their club and I let them suggest what projects we will do each month (within reason) and so far, they have really liked them all.  And, the main thing is - when they take their turn at being hostess, WOW!  I think they are catching on to how nice it is to get FREE stuff.
No pigture today. Just checking in and updating. Thanks for stopping in.  Happy pigtrails to you, pinkpigy@aol.com

Happy New Year!

Oh my goodness!  I was so excited about getting this blog-thing going and wham! right off the bat - I noticed I hadn't been on since last year.  Drats!  Well, I had to rest, but didn't think it would this long of a rest.  NOW! piglets - let's get started. But, first, I want to say "I have my very first follower." How excited I am. you can be a follower if you want.  Just see what you have to do. I'm not much help yet, cuz' I haven't figured it out.
I want to try my best to do my best, and that will take some time. So, to get on with some good things.  I have  (attempted) to take a couple pigtures.  One is from the super neat-o Occasions Mini Catalog (OMC) - XOXO is the stamp set and it comes in wood or clear mounted.  For the clear mounted stamps, you will need some type of acrylic block (and, imagine this if you will - Stampin' Up! has a variety of acrylic blocks to match the different sizes of clear mount stamps).  So, how cool is that!  Okay, so I don't get the photographer of the year award. At least, I'm showing the products.  The glimmer paper is a favorite -it's shiney and glimmery.
See.....    go on line and cruise through the OMC and see all the goooooood stuff.  I hope you will think of buying from me when you want to order Stampin' Up! products.

So, look at this great deal.  I had sent an email out to my mailing list offering 30 pieces of 6x6 Designer Series Papers for only $14.00 (includes mailing charges).  Here is a sample (these papers are from the 'Love Impressions' Specialty DSP pack. I have another demonstrator to thank for this idea, but I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I do this offer for you.  I have to have the money before sending them out and at this time I do not take credit/debit transactions (cash, check, or money order only).  Email me at pinkpigy@aol.com ifyou are interested.
You might not get the exact squares as shown in the pigture, but each one is excellent. The way they are cut and end up are a little different, but if you want all of them, just place an order on line... http://www.janerappleyea.stampinup.net/
This item@121780 'Love Impressions Specialty Designer Series Paper.... $11.95 and coordinates with the stamp set and glimmer paper as shown above.
I think I have shared enough today.  I hope your day goes well and happy pigtrails to you, Jane
Okay, I just knew I couldn't quite stop. I haven't written enough, so here is a couple pigtures of the 2011 calendar/frame class I am doing this Saturday.  The spaces are filled; however, you can order the kit for $45.00 (that includes a tutorial with pigtures and the frame and shipping charges).  If you are interested in purchasing one or more, let me know.  I will do as many as frames I have left over (my framemaker said the ones he just made are the last ones he will make). Hurry, they make great gifts or just keep one for yourself and duplicate for a class.

oooo...see the little blotch in the November 24th square? I stamped and colored the retired "gobble gobble" turkey on white cardstock and put it through my printer on copy (zoomed it down to 25%) and voila`! Then, I cut it out and glued on the calendar.  I know, I know, how stinkin' cute is that!
Stampin' Up! didn't have alot of the blingie things so I had to make them or purchase them in a local craft store.  The calendar page for September I did using the Holiday Mini Catalog (French Foliage), but there are other stamps that can be used to give the results.  I am so proud of myself for creating this page. Now, I will say happy pigtrails, Jane
